Enclosed is a poster asking for your assistance in gathering “audio memories” from KHS Band Alumni and Boosters. Please take a moment to call and leave a message at 330-97-9550 with your responses to the attached question prompts:

  1. What was your most memorable Band Experience?
  2. What do you remember the most about Mr. Rodgers?
  3. What are you planning to come celebrate with us?

We are hoping to make a video and include some of your comments. Please take a moment and respond before April 18th.

Request for Photos and Video

We need your help in gathering photos and video from your years in band at KHS. Now is the time to ask your parents if they have old photos lying around that could be scanned into high resolution jpg files for inclusion in a media presentation that we would like to put together for the Retirement dinner for Mr. Rodgers. If you have photos and are willing to share please forward to photos@khsbandreunion.com. We need your help!!!

Update 2

John Rodgers Party Update 2

We now have a date and location for the retirement party for John Rodgers!! The party will be held at the Tadmore Shrine at 3000 Krebs Drive in Akron, Ohio on June 26th 2010 at 6:00 PM. In the next week or so we will have more details but for now we can tell you the following:

  • We are setting up a website where you can go to make your reservations and get more details and it should be up and running soon. Please visit us at KenmoreBandReunion.com.

  • We are hoping that we can pull together enough band photos from “back in the day” to put together a multimedia presentation to be shown at the event. The ability to do this is totally dependent on you! If you have photos, video, music, or anything else that we could use please forward scanned, high resolution images to photos@khsbandreunion.com.

  • Additionally we hope to put together a Memory Book for Mr. Rodgers. We are soliciting stories of your days in band and how John Rodgers influenced your life. If you want to participate in this project please send letter to Memory@khsbandreunion.com. We will share some of these stories at the event but we will include all as part of the memory book. This is a great way to participate even if your schedule does not allow you to attend in person.

  • We are curious to know who is still and active musician. Why? Because we are talking about having musical performances as part of the event. We still have no idea what that would look like because we need to know who still plays, what they play, and if they are interested in being part of that portion of the event. So please email Tod Moses (todmoses@msn.com) with that information ASAP.

  • Lastly, we still need to continue to pass the word to our fellow band mates for the period of time that John was director at KHS. Make sure that you pass this message on to as many people as possible as soon as possible. BUT remember we are trying to make this a surprise party for JR so when you pass the message along please be discreet.

If you have any abilities/tools to help in any of these areas please contact us soon and let us know where you would like to help. June 26th may seem like a long way off but there is plenty to do between now and then and it will be hear before we know it.

Retirement Celebration for Mr. John Rodgers

1978 If you were involved in the Kenmore High band or orchestra programs under the direction of John Rodgers between 1978-1989, or you know someone who was, this message is for you:

Legendary Kenmore High School band director John Rodgers is retiring at the end of 2010 school year. He moved into guidance counseling in the late 80s but before he did he made a major impact on a lot of young musicians at KHS, not just because of his musical skills but because of who he is as a person. He is retiring at the end of this year, and some of the KHS Band alumni are planning a big KHS Band get together and retirement party for him.

One of the most important tasks is networking to locate as many people as possible. Any thoughts or assistance would be appreciated. Here are some easy and specific things that you can do:

  1. Please personally contact Tod Moses or Kim Oziomek Mender and let us know if you are interested in attending!
  2. Let us know if you would be interested in helping out with planning.
  3. Pass this info on to anyone that you know that was part of this large group of people. Heck, you can even tell those who weren’t there but may know someone who was.
  4. Please share contact info with us. This will be very important for the organization of this event.

Last, but not least, we are going to make every effort to make this event a SURPRISE to John, so please be discrete and tell others to do the same.
